On Tuesday, Sept. 17, 36-year-old Chloe Fineman spoke with PEOPLE during the Through Her Lens: The Tribeca Chanel Women’s Filmmaker Program luncheon, which helps women filmmakers learn how to pitch their short film ideas to the industry. During the event, she offered some perspective on her experience as a newcomer on the long-running NBC sketch show.

Three New Comedians Will Be Joining The Cast

“Have fun, Yeah … You kind of are, like, thrown into the fire,” the SNL comedian stated.

PEOPLE previously reported that SNL will be making changes to its cast for the upcoming 50th season.

On Sept. 9, the late-night sketch comedy show revealed that three new comedians will be joining the cast this year.

The new cast members are Emil Wakim, Ashley Padilla, and Jane Wickline. This addition follows the departure of featured player Chloe Troast, who left the show after one season.

Other cast members who confirmed their departure are Punkie Johnson and Molly Kearney. Johnson noted that there is “no bad blood,” while Kearney expressed gratitude to fans for an “amazing 2 seasons.”

Fineman Discusses Working With Women

Meanwhile, at the Through Her Lens luncheon on Tuesday, Fineman also discussed her favorite aspect of working with women on set.

In a report by PEOPLE, she says, “I just think there’s a safety and a level of trust that is really special. Also, I did a movie this summer with a female DP and a female director and, like, we didn’t yell, you know.”

“It wasn’t a lot of screaming. It was rare. I’m used to, you’re kind of like, wait and then you go to act and there’s a lot of screaming … but it was like a pretty even ship,” she added.

“And I think that was really nice,” Fineman continues. “And also, I think, you know, there’s a level of trust that happens as an actor and, in movie-making. And I think when you have a woman who really like intrinsically understands you, magic happens,” she continued.

Saturday Night Live’s 50th season premieres on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock.
