Princess Diana with her partner Dodi Fayed, was killed in the crash. Her children including young princes William, was just 15, and Harry, 12 were on holiday in Scotland with their father at Balmoral Castle. Charles was the one who broke the heart-wrenching news to them.
Spencer is the youngest among his five siblings and he grew up with his three older sisters Sarah, the eldest, born in 1955, Jane in 1957, and Diana in 1961. He also had a brother, John, who died shortly after being born in 1960.
Charles Has Been the Defender Of Princess Diana
In 2017, Spence told People after Princess Diana’s death, “You always think, God, I wish I could’ve protected her. It was just … it was devastating. I always felt … intensely protective towards her.”
Since his elder sister’s death, Charles has been an outspoken defender of her legacy and causes. Moreover, he delivered the eulogy at Princess Diana’s funeral on September 6, 1997.
He paid tribute to his sister and said, “Serving as the representative of a family in grief, in a country in mourning, before a world in shock, the very essence of compassion, of duty, of style, of beauty.”
