All We Imagine As Light is set to premiere in India. The film, which explores the complexities of relationships through the story of two nurses from Kerala, was written and directed by Payal Kapadia. It has gained significant attention, notably for its run at several film festivals, including the Cannes Film Festival.

The Film Gained Prominence After Winning The Grand Prix

The film is set to start its theatrical release in India. All We Imagine As Light follows two nurses: Prabha, who receives an unexpected gift from her estranged husband, and Anu, her young roommate seeking a private spot for intimacy with her boyfriend. They embark on a trip to a beach town, where they find a space for their desires to come to fruition.

All We Imagine As Light gained prominence after winning the Grand Prix at Cannes earlier this year. The award-winning film features Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, and Hridhu Haroon, all of whom are from Kerala, adding authenticity to the script.

The film will be released in India on September 21 in select cinemas and will be available in Malayalam and Hindi. Baahubali star Rana Daggubati’s Spirit Media holds the distribution rights. This theatrical run is crucial for the film’s consideration in the Oscars’ Best International Feature Film category.

It Was Nearly Chosen As France’s Oscar Entry

The film was produced by Thomas Hakim and Julian Graff through their France-based company Petit Chaos, in collaboration with Indian companies Zico Maitra’s Chalk & Cheese Films and Ranabir Das’ Another Birth. It also involved co-productions with the Netherlands’s BALDR Film, Luxembourg’s Les Films Fauves, Italy’s Pulpa Films, and France’s Arte France Cinéma.

The film was nearly chosen as France’s Oscar entry but was ultimately passed over in favor of Jacques Audiard’s Emilia Perez.

For its Indian release, All We Imagine As Light will debut in Kerala under the Malayalam title Prabhayay Ninachathellam. Following its Kerala release, the film will be shown in major cities across India.
