At a press conference on August 29, Angelina Jolie made a strong start at the Venice Film Festival, discussing her upcoming film Maria directed by Pablo Larrain. Before the film’s premiere, she revealed her nervousness in preparing for the opera singer Maria Callas role and credited her sons for helping her overcome them.
Jolie Overcome Her Nervousness
“I was terribly nervous; I spent almost seven months training. My first time singing, I remember being so nervous. My sons were there and they helped to block the door [so] that nobody else was coming in, and I was shaky,” said Jolie
“And [director Pablo Larrain], in his decency, started me in a small room and ended me in La Scala. So he gave me time to grow. I was frightened to live up to [Callas],” the actress added.
Jolie has never done karaoke before the movie as she replied when asked about her favorite karaoke song to do, “I didn’t sing before this [movie] so I haven’t done karaoke, but now maybe I have a few!”
Maria Is A Real-Life Story
Maria is focused on the true career and life of Callas, one of the most renowned celebrities. The film will be all about her life journey from the beautiful to the tragic story of the singer.
In a report by People, Larrain expressed his excitement for the production of Maria, thanking the scriptwriter and the cast members he previously said, “I am incredibly excited to start production on Maria, which I hope will bring Maria Callas’ remarkable life and work to audiences all around the world, thanks to the magnificent script by Steven Knight, the work of the entire cast and crew, and especially, Angelina’s brilliant work and extraordinary preparation,”
The director continues his biographical filmmaking following Kristen Stewart’s portrayal of Princess Diana in Spencer and Natalie Portman’s role as former first lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis in Jackie, hoping to have success with Angelina Jolie in Maria.
