Team Liquid has triumphed over Gaimin Gladiators in the Upper Bracket Finals of TI13, securing their spot in the Grand Finals of The International 2024. With a swift 2-0 victory on September 14, Team Liquid finally broke their long-standing streak of losses against Gaimin Gladiators in crucial matches.
The First Step Toward Breaking The Curse
In the last two years, Liquid has just five playoff triumphs over Gaimin and has yet to defeat the Gladiators in any grand final. However, Liquid took the first step toward breaking that curse by overcoming GG in today’s best-of-three Upper Bracket Finals.
In Game One, Gaimin Gladiators made a bold choice with Anton “dyrachyo” Shkredov opting for Clinkz, an uncommon pick in the current meta. However, despite the unconventional strategy, it didn’t pay off as Michał “Nisha” Jankowski dominated the game, leading Team Liquid to victory.
Despite Quinn Callahan’s efforts on Dragon Knight, Gaimin Gladiators couldn’t keep up with Team Liquid’s momentum in Game One. In Game Two, Nisha’s Puck relentlessly harassed the opposition, but the real game-changer was the Tusk/Visage combo. The synergy between Tusk and Visage’s Familiars proved unstoppable, leading to Liquid’s decisive victory. Turns out, Familiars really do make great drinking buddies!
Hoping For A Rematch
As a result, Gaimin Gladiators drop to the lower bracket of TI13, where they’ll face the winner of Tundra versus Team Falcons. Fans are eagerly hoping for a rematch in the Grand Finals, giving Team Liquid the opportunity to finally break the curse of being unable to beat Gaimin in a grand final showdown.
Team Liquid will face an unknown opponent in the Grand Finals of Dota 2’s TI13 on September 15. After a dominant performance in the Upper Bracket Finals, Liquid awaits the winner of the lower bracket showdown, aiming to secure their place as champions of The International 2024.
