Have you ever wondered why Apple products including iPhones and iPads promotional pictures come with a time set to 9.41? It’s not a coincidence but a decision. Earlier, they displayed Apple products with the time set to 9:42 in pictures.

“We Design The Keynotes”

As per Inc.com, Scott Forstall, former senior vice president of iOS software at Apple and leader of the original iPhone and iPad software development team said the answer lies in Apple founder Steve Jobs and his strategy to present the product during the launch.

“We design the keynotes so that the big reveal of the product happens around 40 minutes into the presentation. When the big image of the product appears on the screen, we want the time shown to be close to the actual time on the audience’s watches. But we know we won’t hit 40 minutes exactly,” he said.

In the world of technology, even the trivial details carry major meaning like the choice of displaying the time to 9.41, which shows Apple’s determination to create a striking experience for the consumers.

Apple Preferred To Be Early

Team Apple chose to be early rather than late, giving themselves a few extra minutes by putting devices time to 9:42 a.m. in product photos. However, as Jobs practiced his presentation, it became clear that he would launch the first iPhone at 9:41 a.m., and as a result, the picture was set for 9.41.

At MacWorld 2007, when Jobs uncovered the original iPhone at 9.41 am, the first picture of the phone with its screen on, displaying on the big screen behind him, showing the time set to 9.41 am. “It turned out we were pretty accurate with that estimate, so for the iPad, we made it 41 minutes,” Inc.com quoted Forstall as saying. “And there you are–the secret of the magic time.”
