Former President Donald Trump, the US Republican presidential nominee, has agreed to hold a debate moderated by Fox News with Democratic US Vice President Kamala Harris on September 4. The debate would be considered the second presidential debate this election cycle and the first between Mr. Trump and Harris.
The first debate between Trump and Harris
Fox News anchors Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum would moderate the debate to be held at a to-be-determined location in Pennsylvania, the must-win battleground state that could help decide the election as per Trump’s latest social media post.
“Rules will be similar to the rules of my debate with Sleepy Joe, who has been treated horribly by his party, but with a full arena audience,” Trump said, referring to President Joe Biden.
However, it is still vague if Ms. Harris had agreed to the debate and its terms. Representatives for her campaign did not respond to requests for comment. Even the spokeswoman for Fox News also did not respond to questions.
“I spent hundreds of millions on fighting Joe”
Trump accepted Harris as a new Democratic candidate and said that he was “totally prepared to accept” Harris. Since Biden announced and dropped out of the race and endorsed Harris, Trump has defined her dominance as a “coup” within the Democratic Party. The former president complained about the shake-up among his opponents in his debate announcement.
“I spent Hundreds of Millions of Dollars, Time, and Effort fighting Joe, and when I won the Debate, they threw a new Candidate into the ring,” Mr. Trump said on his social media.
Harris challenges Trump
Trump had agreed to a second debate with Biden a second debate hosted by ABC on Sept. 10. However, he didn’t provide details on sticking to his promise after the president dropped out. Vice President Harris challenges Trump to say everything to her face and says that she is willing to take the president’s place.
“Well Donald, I do hope you’ll reconsider to meet me on the debate stage. Because as the saying goes, ‘If you’ve got something to say, say it to my face.” Harris said at her rally in Atlanta
