The Paris Olympics in France starts with an extravagant Opening ceremony to make the world wonder, with highly tight security for the smooth functioning of the Games. Paris has imposed a lockdown all across the region for the safety of guests and athletes.
Security and scrutiny
It is the World’s biggest sports event that will run for several weeks. Paris for the safety and security of the parade has vested some 45,000 police, 10,000 soldiers, and 2,000 private staff, along the river Seine, its banks, and surrounding monuments, in an unprecedented display of security.
A procession of barges will take nearly 7,000 athletes along the river past Paris’s most famous landmarks as it is said that more than 300,000 spectators will watch from the banks.
Paris to increase security amid the geopolitical tensions
France has repeatedly checked on the security and threats, a whole field of the army is patrolled and scrutinized each and everything including doorways, windows, backpacks, bridges, etc. Since the last Olympics in Beijing in 2022, wars have flared between Ukraine and Gaza, providing a tense backdrop to the Games that makes France keep its security high.
According to the official data, a vast security operation and authorities have turned to powers passed under anti-terror law, placing 155 people under surveillance measures that strictly limit their movements. Additionally, Israeli athletes have been given elite tactical units to and from events with a 24-hour protection throughout the Olympics for their protection from protesters and threats.
“Everything is ready” by President Emmanuel Macron
French President Emmanuel Macron said in a video “Everything is ready. Even the (Olympics) rings are there,” he said, overlooking the Eiffel tower. “Enjoy the Games!”
President Macron expected that the Olympics would continue his legacy as two years ago, he had won a second mandate in the Olympics.
