Powerful Typhoon Gaemi Hits Taiwan Caused Disruption In Mainland Of China

Typhoon Gaemi stirred toward mainland China as rescue personnel searched for nine sailors who went missing when a cargo ship sank in bad weather near Taiwan. The storm was forecast to make landfall in China.

Havoc in China Mainland

The storm had killed almost six people in Taiwan and the Philippines, causing disruption around the region. The tropical cyclone hitted Taiwan with high speed winds equivalent to those of a Category 3 hurricane in the Atlantic Ocean. It has caused havoc across the region and caused submerged roads, dozens of flight cancellations, train cancellations and the closure of school. 

Additionally,  Taiwan Central Emergency Operations has reported at least 200 fatalities . For instance,  a woman riding a motorcycle in Taiwan’s  City was crushed to death by a fallen tree, and a woman in eastern Hualien was hit by a parapet that fell from the roof of a house. Moreover, A tanker that was carrying fuel oil also sank off the coast of the Philippines as the cyclone’s remnants complicated efforts to prevent the ship’s contents from spilling into the water.

Taiwan’s is often churned by cyclone

Taiwan’s Central Meteorological Agency has issued a warning on sea and land typhoons for the entire main island. On the other hand, Taiwan President Lai Ching-te pleads residents not to make trips unless they can ensure their safety.

Taiwan is often churned by typhoons and has a generally strong track record in preparing for the damaging winds and downpours they can bring, especially in its cities. The more at-risk populations tend to be in remote and mountainous areas, especially on the east side of the island, where landslides can pose a major danger

Climate cause: The biggest threat to cause typhoon

As per Scientists the  hotter oceans caused by the human-caused climate crisis are leading storms to intensify more rapidly.Before the landfall in Taiwan, Typhoon Gaemi strengthened in Pacific waters that have been at their warmest temperatures on record. The first typhoon of the season to affect Taiwan, it strengthened by 96 kph over a 24-hour period, well exceeding the definition of rapid intensification of 56 kph  in 24 hours. 

“We will adjust some of the air and naval elements given the typhoon situation,” defense ministry spokesperson Sun Li-fiang told reporters in Hualien.
