WWE star Damien Priest was on the verge of joining the MCU when he said in a recent YouTube interview with Chris Van Vliet that the job was “taken away” from him. Priest clarified that Marvel was not in charge of this decision. Before the part was “taken away,” Damian Priest was cast in Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever.
Priest talks about his lost role in the MCU
The WWE superstar, whose real name is Luis Martínez, is one of the organization’s most well-known wrestlers and a former World Heavyweight Champion, but after being cast in the Marvel movie, he almost pursued a career in Hollywood. He stated, “It’s a long story, but basically… it got taken away from me, but not from Marvel,” in an interview with the podcast “Insight with Chris Van Vliet.” Priest was reportedly offered the part of Namor, which ultimately went to Tenoch Huerta Mejía, however it’s unknown if he was offered that part or another one.
Additionally, the 41-year-old wrestler agreed with the interviewer when it was implied that “the regime was a little bit different at that time” under former WWE boss Vince McMahon, even if he did not specifically state who prevented him from taking on the project.
His wrestling career has taken off
Priest stated he’s “ready” for another Marvel role, but he soon clarified that his career as a wrestler has taken off since he lost out on the role. “It’s funny because now [I’m] busier than ever,” he remarked. Whatever happens, I’m cool with it. Perhaps if I follow that course of action, I won’t be sitting here with you as the world champion after having won the world championship.
“I may or may not be able to win a world championship at WrestleMania. You know, I’ve changed the way I live so that I can’t dwell on regret or things that didn’t turn out the way I had hoped. Instead, I have to focus on what’s coming up next and what I can do to better myself. It was unsuccessful. not catastrophic—the film was excellent anyway.” He said.
