While the Royal family members have been in the news since long, Princess Diana who had a tragic death in 1997 has come in the limelight because of her last phone call to her sons.
She died in a tragic car accident in Paris and today marks her 23rd death anniversary. In a 2017 documentary called Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy, her sons – Harry and William revealed how her death had affected them. In the documentary, they shared their regrets about their last phone call with their mother as it was a very short phone call.
While William was 15 years old, Harry was just 12 then and they were staying at the Royal Family’s Balmoral estate in Scotland. They were playing at that time when they received the call and were on a hurry as well.
William on the phone call
William said in the ITV documentary and revealed his final memories of her. He told: “The very last memory that I have is a phone call [at] Balmoral. On the other hand, Harry said the call is something he will regret for the rest of his life.
William further added, “At the time Harry and I were running around minding our own business, playing with our cousins and having a very good time. I think Harry and I were just in a desperate rush to say goodbye.
He again shared that the things would have been different if he knew this was the last time he’s going to talk to his mother. He shared, “That phone call sticks in my mind quite heavily.”
Harry also opened up about the phone call and remembered William calling him to talk to her mother over the phone. He shared, “It was her speaking from Paris. I can’t really necessarily remember what I said, but all I do remember is regretting for the rest of my life how short the phone call was.”
