Enhanced Caller ID Functionality

With the upcoming release of iOS 18, Truecaller is set to significantly enhance its functionality on iPhones. According to Truecaller CEO Alan Mamedi, the integration of new APIs will enable the app to provide live caller ID for incoming calls, a feature previously restricted due to privacy concerns. This advancement will allow Truecaller to fetch and display caller information in real-time, offering users a more seamless and intuitive experience akin to its Android counterpart.

The iOS 18 update will also include expanded search capabilities, allowing users to search for previous calls, transcribed voicemails, and contacts using various criteria. This enhancement will not only improve the accuracy of caller identification but also streamline the process of retrieving call history and other relevant information, enhancing the overall utility of Truecaller on iPhones.

Addressing Privacy Concerns

Truecaller has faced criticism regarding privacy, particularly after a 2022 investigation by The Caravan alleged that the app collected information without user consent. Despite these claims, Truecaller has consistently denied any wrongdoing, asserting that the investigation was flawed and based on inaccurate data. The company has emphasized its commitment to user privacy and compliance with relevant regulations.

The new privacy-preserving features in iOS 18 are expected to address some of these concerns by allowing developers like Truecaller to implement caller ID functionalities in a manner that safeguards user privacy. By leveraging the updated APIs, Truecaller aims to enhance its service while adhering to stringent privacy standards, potentially mitigating past criticisms and improving user trust.
