Corsair, a prominent name in gaming peripherals and hardware, has announced its acquisition of Fanatec Sim Racing, a leading manufacturer of sim racing equipment based in Germany. The acquisition comes as part of a definitive agreement signed with Endor AG, the parent company of Fanatec, and is pending approval from German regulators.
Details of the Acquisition
The deal, which was initially announced in May 2024, has now reached its final stages. Corsair will acquire not only the entire product line of Fanatec but also its dedicated workforce. This strategic move aims to integrate Fanatec’s innovative sim racing technology into Corsair’s existing portfolio, which includes well-known brands like SCUF, Origin PC, and Elgato.
Founded in 1997, Fanatec has established itself as a key player in the simulation racing market, producing high-quality steering wheels, pedals, and cockpits compatible with PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms. In 2023 alone, Fanatec reported sales nearing $110 million, highlighting its significant presence in the industry.
Goals and Future Plans
One of the primary objectives of this acquisition is to leverage Corsair’s extensive supply chain and logistics capabilities to scale operations and enhance product availability. By integrating Fanatec’s offerings into Corsair’s distribution networks, the companies aim to improve customer service and reduce operating costs.
Andy Paul, CEO of Corsair, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating that the company has long admired the Fanatec brand. He emphasized Corsair’s commitment to expanding Fanatec’s product lines and improving the overall customer experience for sim racing enthusiasts. Paul noted that fans can expect an even more immersive and realistic sim racing experience as a result of this partnership.
A Growing Market
The timing of this acquisition aligns with the rapid growth of the sim racing components market, which is currently valued at around $1 billion and is projected to grow at an annual rate of 20%. As interest in motorsports continues to surge within the gaming community, Corsair’s acquisition positions it well to capitalize on this expanding market.
Fanatec will maintain its headquarters in Landshut, Germany, continuing its operations as a product development center for sim racing equipment. This ensures that the brand retains its identity while benefiting from Corsair’s resources and expertise.
