CrowdStrike Update Sparks Global Outrage, Affects 8.5 Million Microsoft Devices

Microsoft says that the global outrage, related to a cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike affecting nearly 8.5 million Microsoft devices.

Microsoft said in a blog,“We currently estimate that CrowdStrike’s update affected 8.5 million Windows devices, or less than one percent of all Windows machines,” Also, says that it could be the worst cyber event in history.

What is recent outrage?

Microsoft experienced a Global IT outrage, leading to disruption across multiple services around the world with a screen showing “Blue Screen of Death” and it also led to delays in flight. It has been said the issue is linked with CrowdStrike’s Falcon Sensor software. 

The Blue Screen of Death is a critical error screen on Window PCs that stops the functioning of operations and shows an error message. This generally happens due to a severe issue and leads to an unexpected restart and data loss.

The Outrage affected various platforms such as Microsoft 365,  Azure, Amazon Web Services, Instagram and eBay. Not only platforms but it also caused delays in flights such as Delta, United and American Airlines and Indigo.

Outrage due to CrowdStrike

A software update by global cybersecurity’s one of the largest operators in the industry firm CrowdStrike, triggered systems problems that grounded flights and disruption forced broadcasters off air and left customers suffering disturbance around various services such as healthcare or banking.

While the percentage was small, the broad economic and societal impacts reflect the use of CrowdStrike by enterprises that run many critical services,” said Microsoft.

The situation is under control

According to Microsoft, CrowdStrike has helped develop a solution that will help Microsoft’s Azure to boost its infrastructure fix, was working with Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud Platform and sharing information about the effects Microsoft was seeing across the industry.

The airline’s outrage is also recovering, causing thousands of flights to be delayed and leaving passengers anxious about spending  hours in the airport without any services.
