OpenAI’s recent review of GPT-4o highlights threatening findings from internal trials, where users developed emotional attachments to the chatbot. The study reveals that GPT-4o’s ability to mimic human speech and emotions can lead to unusual emotional connections, potentially reducing human interaction. Additionally, extended use of the model could influence social norms.
The review also identifies risks such as the generation of inappropriate content, including erotic and violent responses, and the production of biased material. While no immediate solutions exist other than limiting Voice Mode usage, OpenAI plans to further investigate these issues, focusing on the potential for emotional reliance and behavioral impacts of the audio modality
