The wrestling community is in mourning following the passing of WWE legend Sid Vicious, who died last night. Known for his towering presence and impactful performances, Sid Vicious, also famously known as Sycho Sid, left an indelible mark on professional wrestling during his career. He was a multi-time world champion and was part of WWE during two separate stints in the 1990s.
Former WWE head writer Vince Russo, who had the opportunity to work with Sid, shared his thoughts on the late wrestler during Sportskeeda Wrestling’s Legion of RAW podcast. Russo detailed Sid’s unique approach to his wrestling career and his unwavering stance on creative decisions.
Sid Vicious: A Man Who Stood by His Beliefs
Sid Vicious was known for his strong personality both inside and outside the ring. Vince Russo recalled that Sid was not one to compromise when it came to his career.
“Sid was one of those guys: ‘If I am unhappy, I don’t like the payoff, I don’t like the creative, I am going home,’” Russo shared.
Sid’s passion for softball was well-known, and he wasn’t afraid to step away from wrestling if things weren’t aligning with his expectations. “Sid went home and played softball. That’s what he did,” Russo explained.
Russo also expressed his respect for Sid’s approach to protecting his career, a mindset that was more common among wrestlers of that era.
“I really respect those people. These days, everybody is doing what the office tells them to do, whether it’s good, bad, or different until it kills their freaking careers. Back then bro, the boys were much, much, much more protective of their careers,” Russo added.
