The third umpire is audibly heard in the video requesting that the action be stopped at the moment the ball touched the wicketkeeper’s gloves. “So that’s a clear no ball,” he continued. In front of the stumps are the gloves. Lewis Gregory made sure he nailed the delivery for a six after being given a free hit for the infraction.

Fans outraged at the no-ball rule

Now, a number of admirers have responded in the comments area. A social media user countered that the ball wasn’t removed in front of the stumps, claiming that it was not a no-ball. “Aside from that, I don’t think it’s a no ball”. “Just checking, what happens when a batsman plays a late cut deep in the crease and a portion of his bat is momentarily behind the imaginary line of the stumps?” asked another.

Another comment said, “Truly the most ridiculous no-ball rule in cricket.” “But he collected the ball far behind,” countered a detractors. In an apparent jab at English cricket, a netizen asked, “What is this sorcery? Englishmen attempting to read the game’s rules rather than its spirit”. Another said, “Umpire is right, but I disagree with that rule.” Returning to the field, Somerset emerged victorious in the T20 Blast 2024 quarterfinal. At the Country Ground, Somerset batted first to start the game. Tom Banton scored 75 from 43 balls to lead the innings. He hit five sixes and six fours.

Banton was helped along by Tom Kohler-Cadmore, who scored 63 runs. With the aid of their efforts, Somerset scored 215 runs. David Willey scored 57 during the run chase in an effort to keep the game alive. However, Northamptonshire was eliminated from the competition after failing to make the required 17 runs.
