11 years of Togetherness
On August 19, 2024, cricket legend Wasim Akram and his wife Shaniera celebrated their 11th wedding anniversary with heartfelt and humorous tributes to each other on social media.
Shaniera, known for her vibrant personality, shared a funny yet endearing picture of Wasim on X (formerly Twitter). The picture, likely from a promotional shoot, depicted the legendary pacer dressed as an old man, complete with round glasses and prosthetic makeup.
In the post, Shaniera expressed her deep affection, thanking Wasim for everything he brings to her life, and humorously noted that he looked as good as the day they met.
Wasim Akram reciprocated with his own heartfelt message, calling Shaniera “the love of his life” and praising her for her infectious positive energy that lifts everyone around her.
He thanked her for making him a better person and being his wife, partner, and best friend.
A Cross-Culture Love
Shaniera met Wasim Akram in 2011 at a dinner with mutual friends while he was in Melbourne for cricket commentary.
She didn’t know who he was at the time and wasn’t interested in cricket. Wasim joked that telling her he was “a big deal” didn’t impress her, so he had to charm her instead.
They exchanged numbers, and over time, they grew close, though their relationship wasn’t initially romantic.
Shaniera showed Wasim around Melbourne and introduced him to Australian culture, which he found similar to life in Pakistan.
Wasim, who was still grieving the loss of his first wife, Huma, proposed to Shaniera on one knee at her home.
They married in a simple nikah ceremony in Lahore in 2013 and moved to Karachi, where they live near Clifton beach.
They had a daughter, Aiyla, in 2014, and Shaniera also became a stepmother to Wasim’s two sons from his previous marriage.
Transitioning to life in Pakistan was challenging for Shaniera, but she found the people warm and welcoming. She converted to Islam, learned local customs, and improved her Urdu.
Despite her Australian roots, she now fully supports Pakistan, especially in cricket.
