The summer Olympics is returning again. This time, Paris is organizing the Olympics. The entire world is all set to experience the thrilling multisport event. The Olympic Games in Paris will use existing venues, with the Aquatics Center being the sole permanent addition, hosting artistic swimming, water polo, and diving. Temporary arenas will be set up around iconic landmarks for various events. In this article, we will explore the venues of this tournament.
The Venues of the Paris Olympics 2024:
Paris will host a compact Olympic Games, with most venues within a five-kilometer radius of the Olympic Village in the city’s north. Fans can walk, cycle, or use Paris’ extensive metro system to move between sites. Uniquely, the Opening Ceremony will be held along the Seine River, marking the first time it will take place outside a stadium. Some events will be held in other parts of France and beyond, but Paris remains the central hub.
Far From the City:
Most Olympic events will be held in Paris or its surrounding areas, but a few will take place elsewhere. The surfing competition will be held in Tahiti, which is part of French Polynesia. Located over 9,000 miles from Paris in the Pacific Ocean, Tahiti will host surfers from around the world as they tackle the famous Teahupo’o wave.
Beyond the Famous Spots:
Paris 2024 organizers have chosen some of the city’s most famous landmarks for Olympic events. The beach volleyball matches will be held near the Eiffel Tower, which will stand next to the new open-air stadium at Champ de Mars. Another notable venue is the Palace of Versailles, which will host equestrian and modern pentathlon events.
Event planners have creatively used Paris’s public spaces for the Olympics. The Place de la Concorde, for example, will be transformed into a center for urban sports. The choice of these iconic locations showcases Paris’s beauty and adds a unique touch to the Games.
The Permanent Sporting Venues:
Paris has several permanent sports venues that will be used for the Olympics. The Stade de France, which hosts France’s national soccer and rugby teams, is well-known for international events. It has previously held the soccer and rugby World Cup finals and UEFA Champions League finals in 2002, 2006, and 2022.
To the southwest, the Stade Roland Garros will also be a key venue. Named after the famous French aviator, it is home to 18 clay tennis courts. These courts are regularly used for the French Open and will be part of the Olympic events.
