The 33rd Summer Olympics will take place from July 26 to August 11 in Paris and 16 other French cities. This will be the third time Paris hosts the Games, following 1900 and 1924, making it the second city after London to do so three times. Two of Indian CRPF K9 units arrive at Paris for additional security at the Paris Summer Olympics 2024
Events will be held at 35 venues, featuring iconic Paris landmarks. Fans can enjoy beach volleyball beneath the Eiffel Tower and equestrian events at the Palace of Versailles. The opening ceremony will showcase athletes parading across the Seine. Additionally, some events will be held outside Paris in various locations across France.
Indian CRPF K9 units reach Paris
Two K9 teams from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have arrived in Paris, alongside eight other teams from different organizations, to enhance security at venues during the 2024 Paris Olympics, set to take place from July 26 to August 11.
K9s Vast and Denby, both Belgian Shepherd Malinois aged five and three years, departed for Paris on July 10 and arrived on the same day. The Belgian Shepherd Malinois breed is widely favored by security forces globally for its effectiveness in combat situations.
In total, there are 10 Indian defense forces that will be going to the Paris Olympics 2024 for protection. Besides the two K9s from the CRPF, the other eight are from Assam Rifles, Sashastra Seema Bal, the National Security Guard, and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police.
K9s and their handlers went through extensive training
“Two K9s are selected from each of the Central Armed Police Forces (CRPF). A total of 10 K9s, along with their handlers, have been deployed to secure the various venues of the Paris Olympics. They have been deployed at the request of the French government,” said other Central government officials, privy to the development and seeking anonymity.
They (Vast and Denby) also underwent specialised training for nearly 10 weeks before their deployment, focusing on the assignments they were likely to be given,” said the CRPF.
Before departing, the handlers of the two K9s underwent intensive physical training and received basic French language classes, as stated by the CRPF.
The deployment is expected to continue until the conclusion of the 2024 Summer Olympic Games, which will likely see participation from athletes representing 196 nations.
