England cricketer James Vince has spoken out about two disturbing attacks on his Hampshire home, leaving him and his young family fearing for their safety. Vince, a member of England’s 2019 Cricket World Cup winning squad, has urged anyone with information to come forward.
Family Traumatized by Attacks
The 33-year-old batsman, who resides in Hampshire with his wife and two young children (aged three and seven), revealed that the attacks have significantly impacted his family. Both incidents occurred while Vince and his family were at home.
“My wife and I woke suddenly to a load of smashing, and alarms going off,” Vince recounted to The Telegraph, describing the first attack. “We had no idea what was going on and it was obviously very unnerving so we rushed straight to get the kids to make sure they were safe.”
Vince elaborated on the emotional toll the attacks have taken on his family, particularly his children. “They were clearly very shaken up,” he said. While the family has implemented additional security measures, the fear of another attack lingers.
Second Attack Leaves Vince Frustrated
The second attack, according to Vince, occurred upon his return home from a late-night charity event.
“Obviously something like this is hugely disruptive in our lives, especially for our children, who have understandably been affected and unsettled by the situation,” Vince stated. He emphasized the unfairness of his wife and children having to endure such a frightening ordeal.
Police Investigation and Public Appeal
Vince has reported both incidents to Hampshire Police and shared CCTV footage from the second attack with The Telegraph. Early indications suggest the attacks may be a case of mistaken identity.
Seeking the public’s help, Vince said, “We just desperately want this to stop.” He has also revealed that private security has been hired, and “key information” has been uncovered.
Fan Support Pours In
News of Vince’s unsettling experience has garnered messages of support from fans online. One fan wrote, “That’s terrible James, hope you and the family can recover soon,” while another echoed the sentiment, stating, “Sorry to read you’ve had to go through this Vincey. Hopefully resolved soon with the culprits caught.”
James Vince’s cricket career boasts 13 Test appearances for England, with the most recent against New Zealand in 2018. He has also featured in 25 One-Day Internationals, most recently against Bangladesh in 2023. Notably, he contributed with two catches as a substitute fielder in England’s triumphant 2019 Cricket World Cup final against New Zealand.
With the help of the public and ongoing police investigations, Vince hopes to identify the culprits and ensure the safety of his family in their own home.
