Till date, everyone knew that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in two more movies. But now it has been revealed, Sony Pictures boss Tom Rothman wants to make more web-slinging adventures with the Disney-owned Marvel Studios!
The studio exec was asked about the possibility of continuing the partnership during a Hollywood Reporter roundtable interview earlier this week, who responded: “I hope so”.
Earlier Talks Following Spider-Man: Far From Home
Back in September, Sony Pictures which owns the cinematic rights to the character and Marvel Studios agreed to make one more Spidey movie together following last summer’s Spider-Man: Far From Home. The picture is expected to come out in July 2021, where the character will appear in an untold future Marvel Studios film.
Disney studios boss, Alan Horn was also present at the roundtable, as previously reported by IGN, who cited the fans as the deciding factor in last year’s decision to continue the deal. Horn said, “The fanbase, which is important to all of us, seemed to really respond to what Tom and his folks had done before with our people, and they like it.”

Spidey’s Independent Stand With Sony Pictures
Rothman even acknowledged that Sony can do pretty well with Spidey even when Marvel Studios isn’t involved. In this regard, one can recall that non-MCU movie Spider-Man: Enter the Spider-Verse won the Best Animated Feature Oscar in 2019, though the deal was a win for Sony, Disney and the fans.
The Favourable Association: Sony Pictures- MCU
The trailer for spinoff Morbius has hinted that Sony is still expanding its own “Spidey-verse”. But Far From Home earned more than $1 billion at the box office becoming the studio’s most successful movie ever.
And so continuing its Marvel Studio relationship seems a likewise move financially in all aspects.
