Prada has partnered with Axiom Space to design the spacesuit that will be worn by the first woman and person of color on the Moon, marking a historic milestone for space exploration.

Prada and Axiom Space’s Groundbreaking Spacesuit Collaboration

Prada has entered the space race, co-designing a spacesuit for NASA’s Artemis III mission, which will see the first woman and the first person of colour land on the Moon.

Unveiled at the International Astronautical Congress in Milan, this collaboration between Prada and Axiom Space highlights how expertise from fashion and space industries can converge to create high-performance gear.

This spacesuit is part of NASA’s plan to return humans to the Moon by 2026, over 50 years after the last Apollo mission in 1972.

With a focus on comfort, flexibility, and aesthetics, Prada’s input is essential in balancing both form and function for this pioneering mission.

Prada’s Role in Spacesuit Design

Although Prada’s logo is absent from the final design, their influence is unmistakable.

The suit’s white surface features striking red lines, reminiscent of Prada’s Linea Rossa collection.

Prada’s expertise in material fabrication has helped develop a suit capable of withstanding extreme temperatures and allowing astronauts to perform spacewalks for up to eight hours.

This partnership demonstrates the crossover between high fashion and advanced space technology.

The Future of Space Exploration

Prada’s contribution to the Artemis mission is not just a one-time collaboration. Lorenzo Bertelli, Prada’s Chief Marketing Officer, expressed pride in introducing innovative weaving methods that could shape future spacesuits.

As NASA’s Artemis project aims to pave the way for deep space exploration, including Mars missions, partnerships with private companies like Prada and SpaceX signal the start of a new era in space travel.
