In a series of pointed remarks, President Joe Biden criticized former President Donald Trump’s address at the Republican National Convention (RNC) in Milwaukee, calling out several misleading claims made during the speech.

Biden’s Critique on Trump’s COVID-19 Handling

On Friday, President Biden, who is currently recovering from COVID-19, took to social media to express his dismay at Trump’s statements regarding his handling of the pandemic. Posting a video of Trump’s speech on X (formerly Twitter), Biden questioned the former president’s assertions, stating, “I had the distinct misfortune of watching Donald Trump’s speech to the RNC. What the hell was he talking about?”

Biden highlighted Trump’s controversial suggestions during the pandemic, such as injecting disinfectants, while millions of Americans suffered. “Let’s start with this. Donald said he ‘did a great job’ with COVID. Folks, this is the same guy who told us to inject bleach while over a million Americans died,” Biden emphasized.

Economic Claims Under Scrutiny

The president also dismantled Trump’s claims about economic policies, particularly regarding Social Security and Medicare. Trump asserted that he would protect these programs, but Biden labeled this as a “flat-out lie.” He pointed out that Trump had proposed cuts to these vital services every year he was in office. “Donald claimed he’s ‘going to protect Social Security and Medicare.’ This is a flat-out lie, folks. Trump proposed cutting Social Security and Medicare every year he was in office. And he’ll do it again,” Biden argued.

Biden continued to challenge Trump’s economic promises, referencing Trump’s tax cuts for the wealthy and Project 2025, which Biden claimed would increase taxes on the middle class and cause further inflation. “He bragged about giving ‘the biggest tax cuts ever’ to his billionaire buddies. But the deal is that his Project 2025 agenda would raise taxes on the middle class,” Biden noted.

Immigration and Manufacturing Jobs: Biden’s Counterarguments

Biden also took aim at Trump’s immigration policies, particularly the extreme measures proposed under Project 2025. “He said he wants to throw immigrants into mass detention camps as part of his Project 2025 agenda. It’s despicable. Project 2025 is extreme and dangerous. And it’s not who we are as a nation,” Biden stated.

In terms of manufacturing, Biden highlighted his administration’s success in creating nearly 800,000 new jobs through bipartisan legislation. He contrasted this with Trump’s unmet promises from 2016. “He [Trump] said he’s going to ‘get all the manufacturing jobs back.’ Donald, look at the facts. With my bipartisan legislation, manufacturing jobs are booming, with nearly 800,000 new jobs. Trump promised the same in 2016 and failed,” Biden remarked.

Biden’s Final Thoughts

Biden wrapped up his critique by addressing Trump’s misleading statements about electric vehicles and fiscal policies. “He said he’ll end the ‘electric vehicle mandate’ on day one. Donald, there is no electric car mandate. And American manufacturing is booming under my administration,” Biden clarified.

The president also reminded voters of Trump’s impact on the national deficit. “He said he’ll ‘start paying off debt and start lowering taxes even further.’ That’s a joke. Trump exploded the deficit in his first term and his tax cut plan will make it even worse in a second term,” Biden concluded.

In his closing comments, Biden reiterated the dangers of Trump’s Project 2025, urging Americans to consider the facts and the nation’s values. As the 2024 election approaches, Biden’s pointed critique of Trump’s RNC speech highlights the stark differences in their visions for America.
