Scarlett Johansson, widely known for her role as Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has revealed that her 9-year-old daughter, Rose Dorothy, is too scared to watch her Marvel movies. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Johansson shared insights into her family life and her daughter’s apprehension towards the action-packed films.
Rose’s Fear of Avengers Movies
Despite Johansson’s immense popularity as Black Widow, her daughter Rose, whom she shares with her ex-husband, French journalist Romain Dauriac, finds the movies too violent. “She likes that I play Black Widow, but she’s too scared to watch an Avengers movie,” Johansson, 39, told PEOPLE. Rose’s reluctance is rooted in the intense and violent scenes typical of the Avengers series. Johansson added, “She’s just like, ‘It’s violent.’ I’m like, ‘Oh God.’”
Excitement for Fly Me to The Moon
While Rose might shy away from the Marvel action, she is thrilled about Johansson’s most recent film, *Fly Me to The Moon*. “I think she’s excited about the hair and makeup mostly,” Johansson shared. “It’s just so fun… She’s girly.” This new movie appears to cater more to Rose’s interests, providing a lighter and more enjoyable viewing experience.
Family Dynamics and On-Screen Collaborations
Johansson is also a mom to son Cosmo, 2, with her husband, comedian Colin Jost. Interestingly, Jost makes a brief cameo in Fly Me to The Moon, a casting decision encouraged by director Greg Berlanti. “[He] was like, ‘Do you think Colin would want to do…?’ Greg and Colin, they have a great rapport and they’re both comedy writers,” Johansson explained. This cameo offered a rare opportunity for Johansson and Jost to work together on-screen. “We don’t get to work together really ever because… I mean, we’ve worked together as he’s written stuff for me for SNL, but we never get to perform together,” she added.
Colin Jost’s Bond with Son Cosmo
Jost recently opened up about his bond with their son Cosmo, sharing his love for swimming with him. “One thing that’s really important with [Cosmo] is I take him swimming a lot whenever I can — like pool or ocean,” Jost said in an episode of the iHeartPodcast Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi. He described Cosmo as a natural swimmer and a “smart guy, too, such a fun kid.” Jost’s enthusiasm for swimming reflects a cherished father-son activity, creating lasting memories in the water.
Fly Me to The Moon is currently in theaters, and fans can catch a glimpse of the family’s unique dynamics both on and off the screen.
