New Study Reveals the Coziest U.S. Cities for a Christmas Getaway – NYC Misses Top 5

New study ranks the coziest U.S. cities for a Christmas getaway – NYC falls outside the top 5

A recent study by BetMGM Casino has revealed surprising insights into the coziest Christmas getaway destinations in the United States, and New York City, often celebrated for its extravagant holiday charm, failed to secure a spot in the top five.

While iconic for its dazzling lights and festive celebrations, the Big Apple landed sixth on the list, outshined by cities like North Pole, Alaska, which claimed the top spot, and other picturesque locations such as Park City, Utah, and Kennebunkport, Maine. The study ranked cities based on factors like snowfall, festive events, and scenic nature, redefining where to experience the ultimate cozy holiday vibe.

North Pole, Alaska: The Ultimate Cozy Christmas Destination

North Pole, Alaska, is the winner of the “cosiest cities” at Christmas as stated by BetMGM Casino. Already known for keeping its festive joy alive throughout the year, this little town promises an enchanting December wonderland amidst copious snowfall, warm beddings, and holiday-themed attractions.

“The average amount of snow during December sets the scene for a magical atmosphere,” as the study emphasizes, which leads to North Pole being the quintessential Christmas destination.

The study also commended the uniqueness of stays such as cabins and bed-and-breakfasts, ideal for families looking for a cozy and intimate holiday retreat. BetMGM Casino welcomed such accommodations since they helped in bringing much-needed festive cheer, where visitors may enjoy the magic of the season.

New York City Misses the Top 5 but Still Shines Bright

Despite the iconic ice skating rinks and the legendary Christmas markets of New York City, the grand holiday bashings did not help it crack the top five coziest Christmas destinations. Instead, it settled in sixth place.

Smaller and more intimate places outshone it, such as Kennebunkport, Maine, and Asheville, North Carolina. Said BetMGM Casino, “The amount of snuggle-inducing theatre productions and holiday markets are well-suited to fill your calendar in December,” but the vastness of NYC may detract from its “cozy” appeal.

However, New York City continues to be a bucket-list destination for many during the holidays. The city’s festive events remain nice; from the Rockefeller Center tree lighting and holiday-themed performances, it is still a winter wonderland. It may miss the intimate charm of the smaller towns, but the grandeur of NYC ensures a fun Christmas experience.
