Friedi Kuehne and Lukas Irmler, two German slackline athletes, have broken their world record by walking between two hot air balloons at 2,500 meters (8,202 feet) above the ground.

German Slackliners Shatter World Record in Sky-High Feat

The record-breaking stunt, captured in a viral video, showcases the duo’s impressive balance and precision while walking above the clouds.

Kuehne and Irmler’s latest record surpasses their previous achievement of 1,900 metres, set in Brazil in 2021. This new record has captured the attention of extreme sports enthusiasts and highlights the growing challenges of slacklining at extreme altitudes.

Overcoming Extreme Conditions

The athletes faced numerous challenges during this high-altitude feat, including strong winds, low oxygen levels, and the ever-present danger of high-altitude stunts.

The slackline, tethered between two massive hot air balloons, provided breathtaking views but also significant risks.

“This is the craziest slackline world record Lukas and I have done together so far,” Kuehne said, acknowledging the difficulty and thrill of the stunt. Both athletes have set records in the past, making this latest achievement another milestone in their careers.

Slacklining: A Sport of Precision and Balance

For those unfamiliar with slacklining, it’s a sport that requires walking or balancing on a flat webbing line suspended between two points. While similar to tightrope walking, slacklining demands incredible focus, strength, and coordination, especially at extreme heights.

Kuehne and Irmler are seasoned slackliners, each having set significant records in the sport.

Irmler set the world record for the longest distance walked on a slackline in 2019, covering 2 kilometres. Kuehne, known for walking without safety devices, achieved a stunning 110-metre-long slackline walk at 250 metres in 2017.

Strict Regulations and Future Ambitions

Despite their success, the duo expressed the difficulty of obtaining permission for such extreme stunts, especially given the strict regulations in Germany.

Kuehne also revealed that he has plans to push the boundaries even further, sharing his dream of skydiving off the slackline as part of a future stunt.

While this latest record is one of the most daring in slackline history, the duo shows no signs of slowing down, aiming to continue breaking records and pushing the limits of what’s possible in the sport.
