Who is Marine Le Pen?
Marine Le Pen is the youngest daughter of Jean-Marie- Le Pen, the founder of the National Front (RN) was born on August 5, 1968,in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France. She is a prominent politician and lawyer of France, after graduating as a lawyer she joined her father in politics.
In 2011, she took over the leadership of the National Front from her father and distanced herself from his and his party’s extreme view , rebranding it as a National Rally in 2018.
Marie Le Pen ran in the 2012 & 2017 Presidential Election.
Can She Take Control?
According to reports if National Rally secures victory in the second round of voting in Emmanuel Macron’s snap election, Marine Le Pen could become France new Prime minister, making the largest party in the National Assembly
The far- right party won twice the vote than Mr Macron, around 32% of the vote while Mr Macron won only 15%.
Mr Macron said “ I’ve decided to give you back the choice of our parliamentary future through the vote. I am therefore dissolving the National Assembly”
“ I have heard your message, your concerns, and I will not leave them unanswered. France needs a clear majority in order to act with serenity and harmony” he added.
Elections
The elections took place in two rounds, first on 30 June while the second on 7th July.
As per reports, National Rally came out top in the first round, with 33%, followed by the left-wing a new popular front on 29% and Mr Macron’s Renaissance party with 22%.
Ms Le Pen’s Reaction
Marine Le Pen has been trying to polish its image, to get public attention and votes. Earlier the party was more Far-right but now they are working to appear more moderate through various way like: economic protectionism, national sovereignty and immigration control to attract more votes.
Ms. Le Pen shows confidence and her reactions show that she can be the President in the 2027 elections.
She said “we are ready to take power if the French people have confidence in us in these forthcoming legislative elections.”
“We are ready to put the country back on its feet.” she added.”
