Authorities in Equatorial Guinea have launched a new crackdown on abuses at government agencies after a video surfaced online last week.

The issue came to light when several videos surfaced on the Internet, in which as it was reported, a high-ranking official from the ministry of finance was shown having sexual relations with several women whom it was claimed were family members of certain high-ranking officials as well.

According to local news reports, several hundreds of videos of similar nature were found in the home of the official during the investigation of the corruption related charges. The government has said that it regards such behavior as damaging to the country’s image and that it will commit itself to ensure that the culprits are punished.

In reply, Obiang Mangue hastened to declare that officials seen in the video will be placed on leave. This situation has caused an uproar in Equatorial Guinea, a country ruled by Teodoro Obiang for the last forty years. This has caused a public outcry about the operating culture of the government offices.

New Office Security Measures Ordered

On Tuesday, Vice President Obiang Mangue announced new security protocols designed to curb misconduct in public offices. The measures involve the installation of security cameras in all judiciary and ministry offices, along with an increase in internal oversight. These decisions were reached during urgent meetings with the Supreme Court, the attorney general, and other government officials.
