California’s Major Wildfire
California’s largest wildfire this year, the Park Fire, is now 40% contained after burning over 670 square miles. Started by arson on July 24 near Chico, it has quickly become the state’s fourth-largest wildfire.

Cal Fire’s Director and Fire Chief Joe Tyler expressed his dismay at the situation, stating, “I am appalled to learn one of our employees would violate the public’s trust and attempt to tarnish the tireless work of the 12,000 women and men of Cal Fire.”
Hernandez faces six felony counts and is currently being held on a $2 million bail. His court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday, as the agency works to rebuild trust in the face of this troubling incident.
