Can religion and AI go hand in hand?

Considerable progress has been made in Artificial Intelligence and it has made life easy, providing every basic service needed to nurture humanity like Cleaning, Serving, and  Doing Chores. As everything evolves so do our culture and beliefs have also evolved, Can religion and AI go hand in hand? Is a big question. Let’s try to find some ideas on this topic.

AI: In Religious Practices

Artificial Intelligence can be beneficial in religious practice, for instance, it can be used for the benefit of the religious communities, provides virtually opening places of worship to the whole world and also gives access to the sacred texts. Additionally, now we have different religious apps that can be used to guide the people in finding the right way to perform the prayer and the rituals.

Moreover, there are different machines that help in maintaining the quality and condition of  sculpture.

Fear and Acceptance

As Artificial Intelligence is rapidly growing, there is a growing concern among the religious. While some raise concerns regarding the disruption of social structure and challenging God, others are in favor, seeing it as God’s work.

However, with the exceptionally developed AI, it is hard to believe that AI could achieve consciousness and potentially to be one of God’s Messengers.

Ethics

Several  reflections on the ethical dimension have come on the use of AI. According to a report, the church of Scotland, the changes AI is bringing in their daily lives. The church has many reasons to embrace and celebrate this service but still there is a question on these increasing digital revolution.

Bots lack inherent spirituality but sometimes we cannot find person to person contact or relation with God but these robots and bots help us to find spirituality in situations where we aren’t able to connect with human beings or God.

Can AI Be Used For Education

Yes, AI can be used for education. According to some sources, it is said that the German Council of the Evangelical Church has developed methods for digital education, including AI education in schools and  ten commandments on the digital age to provide guidance to the community members.

Theological Questions

It has been said that Humans are different from machines and animals but as AI exhibits the same characteristics like humans for instance, the walk and talk. They behave like humans from outside, then it is not sufficient to argue that machines lack something from inside and are different from us.

It is still a question that can machines possess a soul?

AI can challenge theological views and question religious perspectives. AI can have the ability to reshape theological reflections on humans, as more and more we’re relying on machines, the more we trust them and never question them.

Conclusion

As every coin has two sides, AI can also have two sides, both pros and cons. We should possess the ability to manage so that it can’t take control over our thoughts and thinking. Everyone should know the right way to manage the machines and tools and unchecked dependency can cause problems to humanity. Technologies can be useful in religious practices but it can also be harmful in many ways, if not used in limits that can question the God and can affect the religious practices. Religious practices and AI can only go hand in hand if used within limits.
