Brandon Moreno treated the audience to a spectacle they won’t forget in a very technical and devastating striking show as he beat Amir Albazi handily inside the Octagon of UFC Edmonton.
Moreno made it relentless and precise from bell to bell, ensuring that he’d be walking out with the clear winner – taking Albazi down into a final unanimous decision – a victory after two split-decision defeats.
This victory reestablishes Moreno as an eventual formidable challenger in the flyweight class and reassures fans of an eventual rematch against reigning Alexandre Pantoja when this same fighter lost to him last July.
Moreno Dominant at UFC Edmonton
Brandon showcased an elite skill set and strategy in his last outing against Amir Albazi. He gained striking dominance right from the first round as he used his jab along with his hard-hitting hooks to continuously back up Albazi. Not only did it give him an early lead, but actually, it also set the tone of the fight as he went on.
With each round, Moreno’s furious pace and sharp striking was visibly getting to Albazi, who couldn’t gain any momentum to mount a proper offense.
Judges awarded the unanimous decision victory to Moreno for his dominating performance. This win marks a great comeback for Moreno as he once again establishes himself as a contender in the flyweight division after being tested through previous fights.
A Brief View of Moreno’s Career Path
Brandon Moreno, a self-made man from the moment he entered the octagon for his debut in 2016 as a UFC fighter, built his career from a first-round submission win over Louis Smolka to win the day in a split decision over Ryan Benoit and even garnered a Performance of the Night bonus with a submission of Dustin Ortiz.
Moreno bounced back into the Legacy Fighting Alliance when he wrested away the flyweight title. Moreno, who made history by defeating Deiveson Figueiredo in June 2021 to become the first Mexican-born champion of UFC, sealed his status as one with his next historic quadrilogy against Figueiredo January 2023.
Although he recently lost the title to Alexandre Pantoja in July 2023, a recent win puts Moreno back into title talk, and fans are excited for future showdowns.
