Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were seen boarding a private jet with son Archie Harrison in the South of France. This was their fourth flight in 11 days. The snaps were taken when they were returning to England at 2.30pm on Saturday after enjoying a summer holiday at Sir Elton John’s palatial £15million pad.
Meghan and Harry have come under criticism and they have been accused of hypocrisy after recently speaking out about environmental issues, and soon after using private jets for their tour. There are more than 20 scheduled departures from London airports to Nice in each Wednesday, with an EasyJet return which costs £232.
But they flew on a 12-seater Cessna plane, which would have cost more than £20,000 and generates seven times the emissions per person when it was compared to a commercial flight. However, the family friend Elton, backed the couple, saying he had paid the rent of the jet to give them privacy and made sure the flight was, ‘carbon neutral’.
After reaching in the Nice Airport on Wednesday, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Archie came to Sir Elton’s stunning French Riviera villa, Castel Mont-Alban with police protection. However, the summer pad has earlier been used by celebs like David and Victoria Beckham in the past. The hilltop villa has a swimming pool and is surrounded by woodland.
However, the couple flew back to Farnborough Airfield, Hampshire, on Saturday.
“After a hectic year continuing their hard work and dedication to charity, David and I wanted the young family to have a private holiday inside the safety and tranquillity of our home. To maintain a high level of much-needed protection, we provided them with a private jet flight,” he added.
“To support Prince Harry’s commitment to the environment, we ensured their flight was carbon neutral, by making the appropriate contribution to Carbon Footprint,” he concluded.
