After the months of rumours, it’s been reported that the F.R.I.E.N.D.S reunion is officially happening!

Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry have signed on to participate in a taped unscripted reunion special for HBO Max, the new streaming home of Friends where the special and all episodes will be available during its launch time on May 2020.

Behind The Director’s chair

Ben Winston will direct the special as well as executive produce along with Friends executive producers Kevin Bright, Marta Kauffman, David Crane, Aniston, Cox, Kudrow, LeBlanc, Perry, and Schwimmer. Emma Conway and James Longman are co-executive producers. The cast will tape the special on the show’s original soundstage, Stage 24, on the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank, California.

A Unified Collaboration

Kevin Reilly, chief content officer, HBO Max and president, TBS, TNT, and truTV, said in a statement, “Guess you could call this the one where they all got back together—we are reuniting with David, Jennifer, Courteney, Matt, Lisa, and Matthew for an HBO Max special that will be programmed alongside the entire Friends library. I became aware of Friends when it was in the very early stages of development and then had the opportunity to work on the series many years later and have delighted in seeing it catch on with viewers generation after generation. It taps into an era when friends—and audiences—gathered together in real-time and we think this reunion special will capture that spirit, uniting original and new fans.”

All About Friends

According to reports, the six Friends got a big payday for the special episode which isn’t a revival or reboot but the six pals will get together to talk about their 25-year-old show. The closest viewers got to a televised Friends reunion in 2016 when Kudrow, Aniston, Cox, Schwimmer and LeBlanc got together to honour director James Burrows on an NBC special.

Friends ran for 10 seasons from 1994-2004 on NBC while the comedy made its streaming debut on Netflix in 2015, staying there until the beginning of 2020.

Strengthening The Tie-Up

Robert Greenblatt, chairman of WarnerMedia Entertainment and Direct-To-Consumer said, “HBO Max will bring together the diverse riches of WarnerMedia to create programming and user experiences not seen before in a streaming platform. HBO’s world-class programming leads the way, the quality of which will be the guiding principle for our new array of Max Originals, our exciting acquisitions, and the very best of the Warner Bros. libraries, starting with the phenomenon that is Friends. Under the leadership of two of the strongest creative visionaries — Casey Bloys (HBO) and Kevin Reilly (original content and acquisitions)—and two of the most experienced digital experts—Tony Goncalves and Andy Forssell—I have no doubt they and their dedicated teams will deliver the world’s best storytelling to audiences of all ages wherever and whenever they want it”, during HBO Max’ official announcement.

Also, TBS announced for the next four weeks every episode of Friends will air on TBS and Livestream on the TBS app, weekdays from 10:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m., along with a “best of” on digital platforms.
