Norwegian football sensation Erling Haaland has added yet another milestone to his growing list of achievements. The Manchester City striker made history by becoming Norway’s all-time leading scorer with 34 goals, achieved in just 36 international appearances. Haaland surpassed a record that had stood for over 90 years, previously held by Jorgen Juve, who scored 33 goals in 45 appearances.
“It’s a Record That Has Stood for a Long Time”
In his post-match interview, Haaland reflected on the significance of his record-breaking feat.
He acknowledged the legacy of the previous record, which had been set by Juve in the 1930s. “It is a record that has stood for a long time,” Haaland said.
“I’m proud to have broken it and I feel good. It’s been a long time since I’ve had this much energy on the field.”
Haaland’s historic brace came during Norway’s 3-0 UEFA Nations League victory over Slovenia on Thursday (October 10).
Speaking after the game, Haaland expressed immense pride in his achievement, sharing his excitement about what lies ahead in his international career.
“Of course, it is big and historic. I’m happy, and it’s a fantastic record to achieve,” he said. “I have many years left. I’m enjoying myself.”
At just 24 years old, Haaland’s performance suggests that he is far from finished.
Despite Norway’s failure to qualify for Euro 2024, the team has started their UEFA Nations League campaign in strong form, with Haaland at the heart of their success.
With his remarkable goal-scoring ability and leadership on the field, Haaland looks set to extend his record further in the coming years.
Haaland Leads Norway to Victory Over Slovenia
Haaland’s two goals against Slovenia were crucial to Norway’s commanding 3-0 victory.
The first came just seven minutes into the match, as he reacted quickest to a rebound off Jan Oblak’s save.
Norway doubled their lead through Alexander Sorloth in the second half, with Haaland netting his second goal 10 minutes later, assisted by Sorloth.
Haaland’s all-round performance was exceptional, creating three chances for his teammates and winning five of his seven duels.
His contribution was vital to securing the win and continuing Norway’s positive momentum in the Nations League.
