At Wat-not, we are committed to ensuring the accuracy and reliability of our content. Our fact-checking policy outlines the standards and practices we follow to maintain the highest level of integrity in our reporting.
Accuracy and Verification
Factual Accuracy: Every word in every Wat-not article must be 100% factually correct. Care is taken to ensure that no part of any story is misstated, misconstrued, or otherwise misrepresented in a way that affects the interpretation of the content. Names, numerical figures, dates, and other similar information must always be reproduced accurately, with no room for manipulation.
Source Verification: Writers must use reliable and reputable sources for their information. Preference is given to primary sources and established, authoritative secondary sources. All sources must be cross-checked to confirm the accuracy of the information provided.
News Sources
For news obtained exclusively by a Wat-not writer, this must be clearly disclosed with a phrase such as ‘as revealed to Wat-not’ or ‘in an exclusive interview with Wat-not’. For news obtained from a secondary source, the original website must be hyperlinked over the relevant text. If sourced from a publication without an online presence, the name of the publication must be mentioned.
Anonymous sources can be used only with prior approval from the Managing Editor or Content Head. The source must be reliable and capable of being summoned upon inquiry or investigation.
Editorial Review
Articles undergo a rigorous editorial review process before publication. The dedicated editorial team reviews each piece, checking for factual accuracy, language, visual aids, external embeds, and other relevant aspects.
Plagiarism
Wat-not has a zero-tolerance policy towards plagiarism. Any story found to contain plagiarized content will be taken down immediately, and the writer will face immediate and permanent expulsion.
Quotes
Any quote used in a Wat-not article must be correctly attributed to the primary source and reproduced in its exact form, with no changes except for punctuation or spelling corrections if required.
Corrections and Updates
Wat-not ensures that all errors in its content are corrected quickly and with full disclosure. Readers are invited to notify the editorial team of any errors they spot. Typos, spelling, or grammatical errors are updated by a staff member without a correction note, but the article will indicate that it was modified with the date and time of the change.
Material errors regarding facts, numbers, or quotes are corrected with a correction note at the end of the article, stating: “An earlier version of the article erroneously stated that _. The same has been corrected on <date, time>.”
Ethical Standards
Writers and editors must adhere to Wat-not’s Code of Ethics while disseminating any fact or information in an article. The integrity of our journalism is paramount, and we strive to avoid any form of misinformation or bias.
Commitment to Transparency
We are committed to transparency in our fact-checking process. Our readers are encouraged to provide feedback and report any discrepancies they encounter.
Our editorial team is open to dialogue and values the input of our audience in maintaining the accuracy and credibility of our content.
By adhering to this Fact Checking Policy, Wat-not aims to uphold the trust of our readers and deliver content that is both accurate and reliable.
