Riot Games has announced the official lineup of teams for the newly launched League of Legends Championship Pacific (LCP), the latest regional league tailored for the Asia-Pacific region.
The LCP combines talent from former standalone leagues in Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Oceania, with teams selected based on competitive success, legacy, and fan engagement.
The inaugural 2025 LCP lineup includes four Partner teams with long-standing reputations: CTBC Flying Oyster, Fukuoka SoftBank HAWKS Gaming, GAM Esports, and PSG Talon.
Additionally, four guest teams — Chiefs Esports Club, DetonatioN FocusMe, Team Whales, and Vikings Esports — have received temporary slots. Guest teams will defend their positions in a promotion and relegation system introduced by Riot Games, adding competitive stakes for each season.
This new league structure incorporates a hybrid partnership model, allowing Riot Games to broaden its reach by inviting top-performing teams from across the Asia-Pacific region.
New Structure with Promotion, Relegation, and Expansion Opportunities
Riot Games’ hybrid partnership model in the LCP introduces a promotion and relegation system that keeps competition intense. Guest teams will need to defend their slots each season, with their continued presence determined by performance.
This system could see new challengers emerge from domestic leagues in Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysia, expanding the pool of competitive talent in the LCP.
In addition to its competitive rigor, the LCP structure maintains a balanced representation, with three teams from the Vietnam Championship Series (VCS), two from the Pacific Championship Series (PCS), two from the League of Legends Japan League (LJL), and one from the League of Legends Circuit Oceania (LCO).
Three-Split Format Leading to Worlds 2025
The 2025 LCP season will run in a three-split format, consistent with Riot Games’ approach in major regional leagues like the LEC, LCK, and Americas.
The season will feature a Season Kickoff, Mid-Season, and Season Finals, each stage providing qualification slots for international events.
The season’s pinnacle will be the Season Finals, where top teams compete for three coveted spots in the 2025 World Championship, scheduled to return to China.
This structure intensifies competition, ensuring fans in the Asia-Pacific region witness high-stakes gameplay throughout the year.
