Rekkles Reflects on Mental Health Struggles and Personal Challenges
After a remarkable journey in the 2024 season, including helping T1 secure the world championship, Rekkles shared that his decision to leave stems from personal reasons. He revealed his recent diagnosis on the autism spectrum, compounded by a family accident and difficult years following his departure from Fnatic in 2020.
“When I received the offer from Becker last year to come to Korea and try out for the LCK CL team, I was not in a great place mentally,” he explained. Despite his achievements with T1, he admitted that joining the team only “put them on hold” rather than resolving the underlying struggles.
Rekkles opened up about his state of mind upon joining T1, initially leaning toward a break from competitive play for the 2024 season.
However, the prospect of joining a team as renowned as T1 was an opportunity he couldn’t pass up. Now, with his accomplishments in Korea, he feels the time has come to address these challenges directly. “I believe it is time for me to address those challenges, and to do that, I need to be in Sweden close to my family,” Rekkles shared.
Continuing His Career with a New Focus on Longevity
Although Rekkles is leaving T1, he has no plans to retire from competitive League of Legends. The player revealed he has received an offer allowing him to play professionally from home, which he believes will better support his long-term goals.
“I want to play for as long as possible, and when I imagine the years ahead, I realize this change could help make that goal achievable. Longevity is incredibly important to me at this stage of my career,” he stated, signaling his dedication to the game despite his departure.
Rekkles concluded his announcement by expressing gratitude for his time with T1 and the experiences he gained in Korea.
He thanked his teammates, coaches, and staff for their support, acknowledging the honor it has been to represent T1 on the international stage. “I want to thank my teammates, coaches, and staff at T1 HQ for helping me along the way, and to all of our fans for supporting us.
It has been an honor to wear the T1 badge,” Rekkles added, leaving the community with a message of appreciation and respect.
