Switch Update 19.0.0 Released: Stability Improvements

Nintendo has rolled out a new system update for its popular consoles: the Switch, Switch Lite, and OLED. This latest update, Version 19.0.0, aims to improve overall system stability, ensuring a smoother experience for users. It follows the previous update, Version 18.1.0, which introduced the ability to post screenshots on Twitter and Smash World. Though the update may seem minor, it indicates Nintendo’s ongoing commitment to refining its current generation of consoles while fans eagerly await news of the rumoured Switch 2.

General Stability Enhancements

The Nintendo Switch system software can be updated to keep the console running smoothly. The latest update, version 18.1.0, was released on June 11, 2024. This update includes:

Removing the option to link X (formerly Twitter) in “Settings” > “User Settings” > “Posting to Social Media”

Removing the option to link social media accounts in “My Page” > “Friend Suggestions”

General system stability improvements

The primary focus of the 19.0.0 update is system stability. Nintendo’s official patch notes were brief, stating only “general system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience.”

This might sound like a routine update, but popular dataminer OatmealDome uncovered that “every system component was updated,” which is typical for major updates like this one.

The update’s foundation is a newer software development kit (SDK) that developers can use to create future games.

Growing Anticipation for Switch 2

The update has stirred speculation about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Fans wonder if the update hints at a larger announcement in the near future.

However, according to OatmealDome, this update is unrelated to Switch 2 and instead supports the current Switch development kits.

Even as anticipation grows, Nintendo has several exciting game releases lined up for 2025, including Donkey Kong Country Returns HD and Civilization 7, ensuring the current generation of consoles remains in the spotlight for a little longer.
