The Global Esports Federation (GEF) has renewed its dedication to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the SDG Digital Summit 2024. Organised by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the event, held on September 20-21 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, focused on advancing global sustainability efforts through digital innovation.
GEF’s Role in the SDG Digital Advisory Group
As part of the SDG Digital Advisory Group, GEF joins forces with major global players like Amazon, Google, and Microsoft to address critical global challenges.
Convened by ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin, the group seeks to leverage digital technology in pursuit of the SDGs.
GEF’s involvement underscores esports’ potential as a global connector, with CEO Paul J. Foster that esports is not just about gaming but also about fostering innovation and inclusivity.
GEF, through its #Elevate2030Program, highlighted its commitment to developing digital skills, fostering greater inclusion, and empowering youth.
The federation also contributed to the ITU’s Partner2Connect Digital Coalition, pledging to support initiatives aimed at bridging the global digital divide.
Partnerships and Social Impact Initiatives
This year, GEF has secured partnerships with key organisations like MGM Alternative and the Asociación Deportiva Peruana de Esports (ADPES).
These collaborations are part of GEF’s broader Global Social Impact Initiatives (GSII), which focus on social impact through esports.
Additionally, GEF presented the Pioneers Youth Award at the SDG Digital GameChangers Awards, further showcasing its commitment to empowering the next generation through esports.
GEF’s efforts to promote sustainability align with its mission to enhance the credibility, legitimacy, and global recognition of esports.
