G2 and iG End Dota 2 Partnership After Mixed Results

European esports organisation G2 Esports and Chinese powerhouse Invictus Gaming (iG) have announced the end of their co-branded Dota 2 partnership. The collaboration, which was launched at the end of 2023, saw the two teams come together in hopes of expanding their global presence in esports. Despite efforts to achieve strong performances, the partnership did not deliver the desired results on the international stage.

Mixed Results and Short Tenure

The G2.iG team aimed to make a significant mark on the global Dota 2 scene, but their performance fell short of expectations.

While they showed potential with a top-four finish in PGL Wallachia Season 1 and a solid placement at ESL ONE Birmingham, the team struggled at high-profile events.

Finishing outside the top 16 at The International and near the bottom at the Riyadh Masters, the team faced challenges against top-tier competition.

These mixed results likely contributed to the decision to end the partnership. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), G2 expressed gratitude toward iG and the players for representing the organisation on the global stage. Both teams have decided to explore new directions in esports.

Future Plans and Expansion

Despite the end of this partnership, G2 Esports remains committed to expanding its presence in China.

The organisation expressed a desire to continue engaging with its fanbase in the region and hinted at future plans in Chinese esports.

G2 continues to have a significant global footprint, with teams competing in VALORANT and Call of Duty, among other titles.

Invictus Gaming, known for being the first Chinese team to win a League of Legends World Championship, will continue to compete in Dota 2, League of Legends, and other major esports titles like Counter-Strike and PUBG.
