Nicolai “dev1ce” Reedtz, Astralis’ AWPer, is stepping back from CS:GO. He will miss the upcoming PW Shanghai Major 2024 European RMRs.
Stress-related health issues are preventing his participation for the rest of 2024.
dev1ce Steps Back from Competitive CS:GO
In a statement posted on Twitter, dev1ce explained his decision. He has been dealing with symptoms like sleep issues, heart palpitations, and extreme fatigue. These problems started during the BLAST World Final in Singapore. Despite efforts to recover, the symptoms haven’t improved.
Dev1ce confirmed that he won’t be competing in the upcoming major. Even if Astralis qualifies, he won’t return until 2025. This is a tough break for the four-time Major winner. Unfortunately, Dev1ce faced similar health challenges earlier in his career.
dev1ce’s Health Struggles: A Familiar Challenge
This is not the first time dev1ce has faced health struggles. Back in 2022, while with Ninjas in Pyjamas, he had to miss most of the season. After taking time to recover, Dev1ce returned to Astralis in strong form.
Now, he’s taking another health break. He is prioritising his recovery for the upcoming months. Dev1ce hopes to return to competitive play in early 2025. His decision reflects a commitment to long-term health and recovery. It’s a tough decision, but necessary for his well-being.
Changes to Astralis Roster Amid dev1ce’s Absence
With dev1ce unavailable, Astralis will need to adjust. Benched rifler Alexander “br0” Bro will return to the active roster. IGL Casper “cadiaN” Møller is expected to take over AWPer duties. This shift will change the dynamic of the team.
Astralis will face 9 Pandas in their opening match of the European RMR B. Fans are hopeful that the team can perform well despite the loss of dev1ce. The upcoming months will test Astralis’ ability to adapt without one of their top players.
Dev1ce’s absence will undoubtedly be felt, but Astralis is determined to perform.
