Activision has delivered disappointing news to players of Modern Warfare 3 as it confirmed that double XP tokens and various in-game content will not transfer to the upcoming Black Ops 6. This decision has sparked frustration among the gaming community, particularly for those who have amassed numerous double XP tokens throughout their gameplay.
Activision disappointing announcement
Activision has officially said that when Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 comes on October 25, any double XP tokens obtained in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will not be transferable to the shooter. Players will now only be able to utilize their current tokens in Modern Warfare 3 or Warzone. Previously, all double XP tokens were transferred between 2022’s Modern Warfare 2 and 2023’s Modern Warfare 3.
With Black Ops 6 quickly approaching, developer Sledgehammer Games is phasing off support for Modern Warfare 3, the current Call of Duty game. Modern Warfare 3 will end with Season 6, even though servers will still be up and running. On September 18, the enormous content update will launch, bringing with it an abundance of new features for fans of multiplayer games and veterans of Warzone, such as new maps, weaponry, cosmetic packages, and much more.
Fans are enraged at Activision
The community is incensed at Activision for refusing to move double XP tokens from Modern Warfare 3 to Black Ops 6, but this is hardly shocking. As part of its new Carry Forward feature, Activision let the community keep utilizing all of the packages and unlocked weapons they had already purchased when switching from Modern Warfare 2 to its 2022 successor. Activision, however, has decided to drop the contentious Call of Duty feature in anticipation of the release of Black Ops 6.
Fans evidently weren’t expecting this to extend to all of their double XP tokens, but it appears that no weapons or cosmetic items from Modern Warfare 3 will be playable in Black Ops 6. Fans criticized the choice as “lame” and claimed that Activision was once again taking one step forward and two steps back in response to the news.
Nonetheless, a significant section of the community has started to speculate that, as was previously allowed during Black Ops Cold War, it would be feasible to activate the double XP tokens within Warzone and then return to Black Ops 6 multiplayer to utilize them. Activision probably wants to avoid this, so until Black Ops 6 is out in October, it’s impossible to say if this strategy will be effective.
