Pop star and actor Selena Gomez has shared a deeply personal revelation about her health struggles, revealing that she cannot carry her own children. In an October cover interview with Vanity Fair, the 32-year-old said she had hoped to start a family by the time she was 35. However, due to her ongoing medical conditions, Gomez explained that her health poses significant risks for both her and a potential baby.

Gomez, known for her role in Only Murders in the Building, was diagnosed with lupus in 2015, a disease that causes the immune system to attack the body’s own tissues and organs. This led to a kidney transplant in 2017. In addition to lupus, the singer has faced anxiety, depression, and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2020. These health conditions made it impossible for Gomez to safely carry a pregnancy, a reality she admitted was hard to accept at first.

Health Struggles and Emotional Journey

In the interview, Gomez opened up about the emotional toll of not being able to have biological children.

She described how she had to grieve the loss of that possibility, something she had envisioned for her future.

“It’s not necessarily the way I thought it would happen,” Gomez explained.

However, she emphasised that she has reached a better place emotionally, and is now looking forward to other options like adoption or surrogacy.

Gomez’s mother, Mandy Teefey, was adopted, which has inspired her to consider this path.

“It made me really thankful for the other outlets for people who are dying to be moms. I’m one of those people,” Gomez added, saying that adoption is a huge possibility in her future.

Looking to the Future: Adoption and Surrogacy

Despite her health challenges, Gomez expressed excitement about the journey to becoming a mother.

While it may not follow the traditional route she once imagined, she is open to the idea of adoption or surrogacy.

“At the end of the day, I don’t care. It’ll be mine. It’ll be my baby,” she said.

Gomez believes that no matter how the process unfolds, her future children will be deeply loved and cherished.
