Princess Theodora of Greece tied the knot with American attorney Matthew Kumar on September 28, 2024, in a long-awaited wedding ceremony held at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens. The couple’s nuptials were delayed twice—first due to the COVID-19 pandemic and again following the death of Theodora’s father, King Constantine II, in January 2023. Surrounded by family and friends, the couple celebrated their love and commitment, reflecting their deep ties to Greek culture and heritage.
A Royal Venue with Historical Significance
The wedding took place at the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Annunciation, a site rich in royal history where Theodora’s parents were married nearly 60 years ago. This choice of venue not only honors her family’s legacy but also symbolizes the couple’s connection to Greece, as they sought to share their love for the country with their guests.
The wedding was attended by numerous royal family members, including Theodora’s brothers, Crown Prince Pavlos and Prince Philippos, who served as groomsmen. The ceremony featured traditional Greek Orthodox elements, emphasizing the importance of family and cultural heritage in their union. Following the first-ever postponement of her wedding to Matthew, Theodora shared a poignant statement on Instagram along with a close-up photo of the couple clutching what appeared to be champagne glasses. “On what should have been our wedding weekend – the love and support from friends and family have been so appreciated. We can’t wait to celebrate with all of you in Greece once it’s safe xx,” Princess Theodora said in May 2020.
