Olivia Nuzzi parts ways with New York Magazine following rumours of an alleged emotional relationship with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., with both denying any physical affair.
The magazine stated that after an independent review by law firm Davis Wright Tremaine, no inaccuracies or bias were found in Nuzzi’s work during her 2024 election coverage. However, both parties agreed that ending their association was the best course of action.
Nuzzi, 31, had been with the magazine for nearly eight years as its Washington Correspondent, covering high-profile political figures, including Donald Trump and RFK Jr. The split comes after New York Magazine issued a public apology for not disclosing a “personal relationship” involving Nuzzi and a subject she profiled during the election.
Alleged Affair with RFK Jr.: Emotional But Not Physical
The controversy surrounding Nuzzi first arose when she reportedly became personally involved with one of her former reporting subjects, later identified by multiple outlets as RFK Jr., a presidential candidate.
Nuzzi has stated that while the relationship was never physical, she regrets not disclosing it earlier.
The affair, described as “emotional and digital” rather than physical, has been denied by Kennedy, who is married to actress Cheryl Hines. His representative dismissed the claims, stating Kennedy only met Nuzzi once for an interview.
Nuzzi’s Career and the Impact of the Scandal
Nuzzi had established herself as a respected journalist, making waves with her political reporting.
However, the revelation of her personal involvement with RFK Jr. and the ensuing media frenzy have led to questions about journalistic ethics and boundaries.
While no bias was found in her reporting, the potential conflict of interest led both her and New York Magazine to agree to part ways.
