At a D23 event in Anaheim, California, Cyrus became emotional as the crowd applauded her. She shared that she had prepared two speeches for the event, one lengthy for her confident side and a shorter one for when she felt nervous. Reflecting on the start of Hannah Montana in 2005, she humorously noted that she was “definitely not created in a lab” as a “Disney kid.”

Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company, previously lauded Miley Cyrus before her Disney Legend accolade, calling it the company’s highest honor for those who have made significant contributions to its legacy. In a press release, he emphasized that the title is reserved for individuals whose talent and achievements have earned them a lasting place in Disney history. Praising the artist he said “To be named a Disney Legend is the highest honor our company can bestow on anyone, reserved for those whose talent and achievement have earned them an enduring place in our history,”
He also remarked that “The fourteen individuals to be honored as Disney Legends this year have each made extraordinary creative contributions across the worlds of Disney and we look forward to celebrating them at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event.” The D23 event also celebrated other honorees such as Angela Bassett, Colleen Atwood, Martha Blanding, James L. Brooks, James Cameron, Jamie Lee Curtis, Steve Ditko, Harrison Ford, Mark Henn, Frank Oz, Kelly Ripa, Joe Rohde, and John Williams.
