Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have made their first joint public appearance in nearly two months through a video message addressing the critical topic of child online safety.
The couple, co-founders of the Archewell Foundation, appeared in a serious and formal manner as they spoke at the Global Ministerial Conference on Violence Against Children in Colombia.
The video marked a return to the spotlight for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who used the platform to urge immediate action to protect children in the digital age.
A Call for Urgency: The Sussexs’ Serious Message About Child Safety
Harry and Meghan were presenting their first public appearance since September but on child-safety online, the Duke of Sussex opened speech boldly with a powerful statement:
“We are at a crossroads where the urgency to reassess and redefine our approach to protecting children has become increasingly evident.” He made it plain; even the need for society is not just merely to be aware but to move to meaningful change.
In consonance with this urgency, Meghan brought her perspectives on the complexities of modern connectivity: “We acknowledge that the new reality of today is one of more connectivity and advanced technology; indeed, many positives; at which, it also challenges us to better understand how digital violence against children is manifesting itself in this age.”
A shared focus was placed on the actuality that deepened understanding had to be achieved about how digital spaces shape young lives for better or worse.
Mission of Archewell: Protecting Children and Support to Parents
Meghan noted that the Archewell Foundation aims to act in cooperation and learning when relating to the issues that she pointed out.
We’re connected with the young people and their families around the world through experts and communities, learning how each and every part of a child’s life-from livelihood to physical and mental-well-being now works within an online economy that can shape or reshape our connections,” she said.
It puts under scrutiny the creation of safe, digital environments for children, listening to diverse voices and experiences. Harry continued his efforts with one such project in particular: “We know that there is nothing more important than supporting parents as a way of reducing digital violence against children. That’s why earlier this year, we launched the Parents Network, a support network for families dealing with online harm.”
This move signifies the couple is set on supporting the parents and guardians and listing them as the very key persons who will efficiently combat the digital threats that unleash terror upon the minds and well-being of children.
