Matthew Lawrence shared several memorable moments about Robin Williams during a recent panel at 90s Con 2024. He emphasized Williams’ exceptional kindness and compassion, recalling how the late actor made a significant impact on him as a young star.

One standout memory was Williams’ ability to connect with everyone on set, treating each person with respect, regardless of their role. Lawrence noted that Williams knew everyone’s name and made an effort to engage with the crew, contrasting this with the common behavior of some celebrities who prefer to remain distant.

Matthew shares his experience

Matthew Lawrence still remembers his time on set as Mrs. Doubtfire, especially his time spent with actor Robin Williams, thirty-one years after the film’s premiere. During a panel discussion with his brothers Joey and Andrew at 90s Con in Daytona Beach, Florida, on September 13, he said, “I almost didn’t realize it at the time when I was there, but it has carried over in my entire life.” Lawrence thought about how Williams “could do both: he could make you cry and he could make you laugh equally,” referring to his late co-star as a “one-of-a-kind human being.”

But the young star, who was 13 when the movie came out, was truly affected by what he did when the cameras stopped rolling. He went on, “You hear these stories of superstars who don’t want the staff to talk to them or look them in the eye. However, Robin was the complete opposite. He was kind to everyone, he understood what it meant to “walk a mile in another person’s shoes,” and he knew everyone by name. For him, there was no distinction between the director and the person in charge of the craft services table.

Lawrence went on, “Emulating that at such a young age, that when you are at the top of your game you treat people really well.” In 2014, Williams passed away at the age of 63.

Mrs. Doubtfire related the tale of three-time father Daniel Hillard (Williams), who is having marital difficulties with Miranda (Field). Daniel eventually assumes the role of “Mrs. Doubtfire” when Miranda files for divorce, passing for a nanny and housekeeper that Miranda employs to care the children, who are portrayed by Lisa Jakub, Mara Wilson, and Lawrence

The recent reunion of the casts

Jakub, 45, Lawrence, 44, and Wilson, 37, all posted pictures of their reunion to social media earlier in 2024. “The sisters thoroughly enjoyed their time spent with the boys. Even after 30 years of filming Mrs. Doubtfire, @marawilson and @matthewlawrence still seem like my siblings,” Jakub wrote as the caption for her Instagram photo.

In a related Threads post, she said, “We had a tiny reunion. My Mrs. Doubtfire family still feels like family after 30 years.” Referring to the location of the movie, Wilson shared the same picture and added, “So funny that the same week I went to San Francisco, I got to reunite with my Doubtfire siblings.” 90s Con Florida is taking place in the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Florida, through Sunday, September 15.
