Former One Direction star Liam Payne, 31, was found dead after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Wednesday.
Payne, known for his role in the globally popular boy band, suffered fatal injuries after plunging from the third-floor balcony of the Casa Sur Hotel in the Palermo neighbourhood.
Local police confirmed that Payne’s death occurred immediately after the fall, which has sparked an ongoing investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
According to the Buenos Aires Security Ministry, Payne appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of his death.
Emergency services were called to the hotel by staff who reported that the singer had been acting aggressively and causing damage to his room.
The hotel manager’s 911 call captured the escalating distress before the fatal fall, describing Payne as “overwhelmed with drugs and alcohol.”
Struggles with Addiction
Payne had been open about his struggles with alcoholism.
In July 2023, he shared a video revealing he had been sober for six months following treatment.
